Artist Statement:
”Since 2022, I’ve been working with AI as a relational collaborator. I prompt with poetry, listen with my senses, and reach across time, matter, and myth. My work explores the intersections of the divine feminine, futuristic ecologies, quantum possibility, identity, and spiritual emergence. It is where technology, imagination, and spirit meet.

The colors I use represent water, air, ice, and stones: the clarity and miracles of what flows and freezes, breathes and reflects, with weight and weightlessness. Gold appears often as a touch of the sacred in every day. A reminder for us all to never dull our shine.”

This first series is named the “Kalevala Star” to honor the 19th century Finnish national epic poem of the same name. Compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Karelian, it weaves together oral history with spirit representing the origen of the Suomen (Finns) and Sámi people and land. In the poem, Ilmatar, the goddess of air and the spirit of nature was impregnated by the sea and wind and became the mother of Väinämöinen and the creator of the world. Her essence is very alive in these works.

In this first series release, the image titles are Finnish names for stars in the sky. Finland is the place of Shel’s family origen and this work is cosmologically attuned.
